HMRC announces updated approach to clearance process and timeline for IHT100

Lowestoft quayside

HMRC announced changes to the processing of IHT 100 forms, which changes the timelines for when submitters can expect settlement.

What is an IHT100 form?

IHT100 is a collection of forms used to tell HMRC about chargeable events where inheritance tax will be due on a trust or gift.

Changes to the timeline

HMRC will now confirm receipt in writing and provide a date 12 weeks from acknowledgement. If no contact occurs by that deadline, submitters can assume no further questions exist. This applies to forms submitted on or after 20 April 2022.
